QUESTION ONE:In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
MacGuffin: A MacGuffin is the prop in the film that gives the story momentum and drives the plot and meaning for the characters.
Red Herring: A Red Herring is used as something to mislead or distract the audience from the real issues. The Red Herring can either be something the characters talk about or could be an actual devise.
Cliffhanger: A Cliffhanger is a plot devise in which the hero of the story will be put into a difficult dilemma or be confronted with shocking news at the end of an episode.
Suspence: Suspense is a feeling of pleasurable fascination and excitement mixed with apprehension, tension, and anxiety developed from an unpredictable, mysterious, and rousing source of entertainment.
In our thriller coursework we used a MacGuffin which is the CD te audience never hears what the CD is for and or whats on it but keeps them hooked because they dont want the "bad guys" to get it.
We felt that this would be a good Macguffin because it is small item that can hold any kind of infomation which leaves the imagination and guessing to the audience also it is an item from the 21st century and is very modern and is relivant with todays life where anything on the internet can be saved onto any file and shared around and how easy it is to find out information.
We also used a Cliffhanger at the end which was when the protagonist of the story goes to try anf find and save his friend but then gets captured by the enemy but we do not see what happens to him after this inncodent. We chose this to be a cliffhanger because the scene is suspencful and could very nicely lead of to a hole range of possibilities to the story.
We use suspence alot in this short film as a key genre feature to build the story to the final scene which is action packed. the suspence keeps the audience hooked and guessign what is going to happen next.
Our influencees were North by Northwest because of the MacGuffin, our influences are the James Bond franchise because of the capturing and torturing of the hero or heroes.
Our thriller is different because it challenges hegemony because males are domimant but also males are portrayed as weak and helpless like the women in most films.
This is the MacGuffin that we used in out thriller it is a file on a CD that has unknown information on it.
