Question Two:How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our opening thriller sequence is starred by males only. Our thriller portrays males as being dominant because the male villains of the sequence kidnaps and captures the heroes which shows their dominance. The two heroes being males lose apart of their dominance by being kidnapped and captured. The point about the villains kidnapping and being the dominant group because they are male restores hegemony because that's how men are portrayed in society, the second point about the men being captured is challenging hegemony because the men are normally not the ones being captured because we see men as being too dominant to be captured historically the women are captured for example fairy tales, the princess is always captured and locked away in a tower. The fact that villains are wearing masks challenges hegemony because men would have no reason to hide themselves because they are seen has high up and dominant where as women would be the ones to hide because they are always looked down by the men in most situations which hegemony is kept.
This is a scene in our thriller which the protagonists have a disagreement and thus one retaliates and pushes the other, this shows male dominance and that males always wish to be the alpha male over another male.
This is a scene in our thriller which the protagonists gets captured by the antagonist, this again shows the that the antagonists want to be the alpha males over the protagonists and capture him to show their dominance, this thriller emphasizes the point in which men are like animals and always strive to be on top.
This is a shot from the same scene as before, the fact that the antagonists being males and wearing masks challenges hegemony because they are hiding themselves almost like they are ashamed of what they are doing and they know they are doing wrong.
